Recovering Journalist Clint Brewer on a Trump-Biden 2024 Run: ‘We Don’t Want a Rematch’

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed all-star panelist Clint Brewer in studio to discuss the possible selection of candidates for the 2024 presidential election.

Leahy: In studio, all-star panelist Clint Brewer. Clint, you said something in the last segment I wanted to elaborate upon and ask you some more questions. You said that this country does not need another baby boomer to run for president.

Brewer: Correct. I mean, it’s going to happen, but we don’t need them to win.

Leahy: Baby boomers, I think, are in the generation from 1946 to 1964. I’m a baby boomer born in 1955.

Brewer: You’re a very spry baby boomer.

Leahy: A spry baby boomer. The youngest baby boomers would be just approaching 60 right now. But let’s go back and say the early cohort of baby boomers, which would be…

Brewer: Maybe I need to amend my statement.

Leahy: Well, it’s all right.

Brewer: No more 80-year-old septuagenarian-octogenarian.

Leahy: But I’m going with you. Your general idea is interesting and worth discussing. So we’ve got something that’s not working. We got a country that’s not working. That’s the bottom line.

And part of the reason it’s not working is that we have a cranky, 80-year-old, corrupt liar Joe Biden, who’s compromised with his perverted, drug-addicted son’s money coming in from the Chi-coms, most likely going into his pocket at some point.

Terrible, divisive guy and a get off my lawn type if you will. And then we got another kind of get off my lawn guy on the other side, former President Donald Trump.

Let me just say for the record, his policies as president were great, and it was a great moment in American history on November 2nd, 2016, when heads exploded across the media universe and they said, Donald Trump is the President of the United States.

Brewer: And the problem was never his policies. The problem was him.

Leahy: At case in point, yesterday he gave a lecture to evangelicals for their disloyalty to him. There are a lot of evangelicals who are thoughtful people and have decided, I’m not necessarily going to endorse Donald Trump right now. I want to look and see who’s out there. Let me kind of continue on this theme. Donald Trump…

Brewer: Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.

Leahy: I’m going to continue, but would you consider yourself an Evangelical Christian?

Brewer: No.

Leahy: You would not?

Brewer: No.

Leahy: Would you consider yourself a Christian?

Brewer: Oh, yeah.

Leahy: I consider myself an Evangelical Christian. There’s a wide range of thought among Evangelical Christians.

Brewer: I don’t know what qualifies as an Evangelical Christian anymore. I get images of a guy on TV preaching, but maybe that’s not accurate.

Leahy: I don’t think it is accurate, but that’s a longer discussion than we have to discuss.

Brewer: That’s not a radio discussion.

Leahy: That’s a couple of adult beverages, perhaps, and a long evening’s discussion.

Brewer: Sure.

Leahy: Let me go back. You’ve got. cranky, divisive, corrupt current President Joe Biden. And the only announced and the leader right now for the Republican nomination is 76-year-old Donald J. Trump, who had terrific policies as a president and whose post-presidency has not been great. In fact, it’s been nothing but missteps.

Brewer: And a lot of losses.

Leahy: And a lot of losses. But a week from Saturday, he’s going to hold a campaign event. I don’t think it’s a rally of the type he’s had before, but 500 people are invited to this campaign event in South Carolina. Lindsey Graham, who’s got to be one of the most disappointing Republican senators, there is ever will be there, along with McMaster.

I don’t think, and back to your point, a battle between these two very old people who have well-known brands, if you will, is something in 2024 that the country is looking for.

Brewer: No. And they’re no longer good brands. That’s the thing. The brands are tarnished. And within their own parties, there’s nothing even approaching consensus that they should be the nominee, much less a candidate.

You got people in the Democratic Party who’ve said for some time that they don’t think Biden should be back. It’s not like it’s just Trump.

Leahy: Will anybody besides sort of the crooks who run the ballot harvesting operation on the Democratic Party, of which there are many, by the way. And sometimes, when I say crooks, often they skirt the law.

Sometimes they break the law, but they get away with it on ballot harvesting and early voting. That’s a machine. They don’t care whether it’s John Fetterman or Joe Biden.

Brewer: That’s a separate issue. That’s just operatives doing their job, making money. Here’s the thing. You’ve got people waiting in the wings in both parties ready to run. Younger people and qualified people for their parties. And we’ve tried this now for eight years with these two gentlemen, and it hasn’t worked. And we don’t want a rematch.

Leahy: Nobody wants Trump rematch, that’s for sure.

Brewer: Talk about driving the country off the edge.

Leahy: Enthusiasm will be at an all-time low. I think right now, as we speak, it is more likely that Biden does not run for re-election than it is that Donald Trump is going to run.

Brewer: Let me tell you, behind the sleepy Joe thing, there’s a lot of ego. There has to be.

Leahy: A lot. That’s fine.

Brewer: But I don’t know if that’s a foregone conclusion. I think if you told him that right now, he would probably vociferously disagree.

Leahy: He would probably punch in the face.

Brewer: He would be very disagree strongly.

Leahy: He would go, Come on, man!

Brewer: Just the same way that Trump would. As a country, you know, we’ve got to rise up as voters on both the left and the right and get past this.

Leahy: I think that the odds that Biden would be the nominee in 2024 are much less now than they were a month ago and probably under 50-50. They’ll have somebody.

It’ll be Kamala or Newsom or somebody who will be, you know, not tainted by the China problems, but still left-wing lunatics and authoritarians on the Republican side. As I’ve said, it’s Trump, DeSantis, or one of the Munchkins. There’s a piece I wanted to bring to your attention.

Brewer: Is Pompeo one of the Munchkins?

Leahy: Yes, he’s a munchkin.

Brewer: Just for clarity.

Leahy: He’s a munchkin who’s lost, like, 80 pounds. So congratulations on that.

Brewer: That’s not where I was going.

Leahy: I understand. But there’s a piece by Jeff Rendall, a friend at Conservative HQ, Richard Viguerie’s operation, where he said interestingly, here’s one of the problems that DeSantis had. He says there are a lot of people who are saying DeSantis is not likable and he’s aloof.
